In Detail : After implementing reroutes, Summit Carbon Solutions has reached 80% of right-of-way needed for their pipeline project.
Summit Carbon Solutions announced on Dec. 19 it has acquired 80% of the right-of-way needed for its proposed carbon capture, transport, and storage project across North Dakota.
The milestone comes after the North Dakota Public Service Commission initially denied the company’s permit, prompting the company to undertake rerouting. The company previously announced reaching 70% of easements needed in March 2023.
“Our team is dedicated to working with landowners to address concerns and reach a mutually agreeable path,” said CEO Lee Blank in a Summit news release.
Following the denial of Summit’s application by the PSC, Summit completed multiple reroutes in Burleigh, Emmons, and Dickey counties. Rerouting has added an additional 12 miles to the route.
Summit plans to capture liquid carbon dioxide from 32 ethanol plants in the upper Midwest, including one plant in North Dakota, and pipe it to western North Dakota for underground storage.
Summit believes that this project aligns with the long-term vision that North Dakota has for its energy and agricultural sectors, according to the news release.
