Berlin : SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa, the German subsidiary of SPIE, the independent European leader in multi-technical services in the areas of energy and communications, is ensuring that wind and solar parks are connected to the grid. Due to the ambitious expansion targets for renewable energies in Germany, the demand for green transformer stations is rising sharply. Building on more than 25 years of experience in the realisation and operational management of green transformer stations, the multi-technical service provider is pooling resources to meet this demand throughout Germany.
SPECIALISTS FOR GREEN TRANSFORMER STATIONS
The many decentralised wind and solar farms being installed in the course of the energy transition trigger a sharp rise in demand for transformer stations. The shortage of skilled workers in particular makes it difficult for project developers and wind and solar park operators to realise transformer stations: there is a shortage of planners, fitters, engineers and project managers on the market. To remedy this situation, the multi-technical service provider SPIE is bundling resources at the Berlin location of the Switchgear Installation business unit of its High Voltage division. “To ensure that the lack of green transformer stations does not become a hurdle for the energy transition, 30 experts will focus exclusively on the realisation of transformer stations for renewables – from planning to project management and installation. In doing so, we rely on a high degree of standardisation, which we can achieve as a large company,” explains Burkhard Sager, Business Unit Manager of the High Voltage operational division at SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa. The already secured order intake confirms the previous market analyses of the multi-technical service provider.
REGIONAL PROXIMITY NATIONWIDE
Experts from the Switchgear Installation business unit located in Weinheim, Essen and Ergolding are also available for the additional offer, so that regional proximity, one of SPIE’s corporate values, is provided nationwide. At the same time, SPIE continues to provide undiminished services to transmission and distribution system operators. “In addition to the green transformer stations, we continue to provide our services for transmission grid operators – both in switchgear installation and overhead line deployment – in the usual quality and quantity, in order to further advance the energy transition here as well,” emphasises Robert Schaetzke, Head of the Switchgear Installation business unit of the High Voltage operational division of SPIE Deutschland & Zentraleuropa.
MORE THAN 25 YEARS OF EXPERIENCE
The Berlin team can look back on more than 25 years of experience with green transformer stations – both in planning and realisation as well as in operational management. An essential unique selling point is the control centre in Berlin, which monitors more than 60 wind and solar transformer stations throughout Germany. Further digitalisation measures as well as the high location density of SPIE in Germany always guarantee customers rapid operational readiness in the event of a possible fault. “With our new unit, we also offer this all-round carefree package, from planning to implementation and operation, to the operators of the wind and solar parks that are currently being set up,” concludes Hannes Simon, Head of the Switchgear Installation site in Berlin.
