In Short : Downing, a company, is reportedly planning to construct a 750-megawatt (MW) solar-plus-storage facility in the United Kingdom. This project signifies a significant investment in renewable energy infrastructure, combining solar power generation with energy storage capabilities. If realized, the initiative would contribute to the UK’s efforts to expand its renewable energy capacity and enhance grid stability through integrated solar and storage solutions.
In Detail : London-based investment management firm Downing LLP has unveiled plans to build a solar plant, coupled with an energy storage system, with a targeted capacity of up to 750 MW in Lincolnshire, England.
If given permission, the project, dubbed Meridian Solar Farm, will be located on a terrain of over 900 hectares to the south of the town of Spalding. Once operational, the facility will be capable of covering the power needs of around 215,000 households, according to a statement released Thursday.
A campaign of environmental surveys and site assessments has already been started to progress the design of the solar farm.
The Meridian project will be managed by Downing’s in-house development business, Downing Renewable Developments (DRD), as part of the British investor’s strategy to develop large-scale renewable energy projects across the UK.
DRD has an active development pipeline of 5.7 GW of renewable energy projects at different stages of development across the country.
