A DECISION on plans for a massive solar has been pushed back due to the scale of opposition.
Elgin Energy wants to build the solar farm north of Tropiquaria Zoo on the A39 near Washford.
Somerset Council’s planning committee west was due to make a final ruling on the proposals on Tuesday (June 20).
But the decision was postponed by a month following an influx of objections by local residents.
The land in question is owned by the Wyndham Estate.
If approved, two new access roads to the solar farm would be created near the zoo – one from the A39 towards Minehead, the other from the B3190 Washford Hill.
Elgin Energy says the solar farm would provide around 25million kWh of electricity per year, enough to power 7,500 homes.
Committee chairman Cllr Simon Coles told the meeting that planning officers had had insufficient time to deal with a large amount of correspondence submitted the weekend before the meeting.
He said: “There has been so much paper generated over the weekend, when officers weren’t there to respond to it. This will raise some questions in your minds, I don’t doubt, and they will need to be answered.”
The matter will be discussed at the committee’s next meeting on Tuesday, July 18 at 2pm.
